Pebble Beach Systems Orca Virtualized Channel-in-a-Box Built on Matrox DSX Core Software Modules
Data-center-friendly solution running on virtual machines lets broadcasters quickly and cost-effectively deploy specialty and event-based channelsMONTREAL — April 13, 2016 — Matrox Video today announced that Pebble Beach Systems has selected Matrox DSX Core software modules for Orca, its
new software-defined virtualized IP channel solution.
Ideally suited to meet the needs of centralcast hubs, service providers, MCOs (Multiple Channel Operators), sports broadcasters, and corporates such as publishing companies seeking new ways to inform their audiences, Orca delivers a flexible option to deploy or contract IP-based channels almost instantly without the burden of racks of complicated hardware, and weeks or months of setup and provisioning.
Matrox DSX Core includes everything OEMs need to create virtualized, software-only broadcast solutions running on COTS machines that can be easily repurposed as needed. It is designed specifically for the cloud and provides built in redundancy, disaster recovery, frame-accurate control for AV sync and extensive file format support to ensure interoperability. End customers can quickly deploy specialty or event-based channels without additional capital expenditure. The Matrox DSX SDK is used to extract the power of DSX Core modules. It offers a common API across all Matrox DSX Developer Products hardware and DSX Core providing a full set of powerful tools including versatile file reading/writing, memory management, streaming synchronization, and a large selection of software codecs and effects. A prototyping tool provides a graphical representation of all components so developers can simulate and test their use cases within minutes, before writing a single line of code.
“Working with Matrox on this project has been a great partnership,” said Tom Gittins director of sales, Pebble Beach Systems. “We have the option of using the DSX Core software-only modules for our virtualized systems and a combination of software and hardware for our other channel-in-a-box solutions. Our development efforts are easily transferrable.”
“To reduce CapEx and streamline operations, broadcasters are looking to take advantage of the flexibility offered by software-defined infrastructures,” said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing, Matrox Video. “DSX Core comes at the right time to help our forward-thinking OEMs like Pebble Beach Systems create channels that run on virtual machines (VM) in a private cloud with IP inputs and outputs.”
Matrox and Pebble Beach Systems solutions can be seen in action at the 2016 NAB Show (Las Vegas, April 18-21) in the Matrox booth SL6317 and the Pebble Beach Systems booth N5323.
