Matrox Announces World’s First Encoder Card to Generate XAVC 4K Intra Class 480 Files - Matrox M264

Broadcast equipment manufacturers can finally build PC-based ingest, production and playout servers to enable full XAVC workflows

MONTREAL — April 12, 2016 — Matrox® Video today announced that the Matrox M264 encoder/decoder card now supports Sony XAVC  formats including the compute-intensive 4K Intra Class 480 up to 59.94 frames per second. The card encodes a single stream of XAVC 4K Intra Class480 or Class300, a single stream of XAVC QFHD Long422 200Mbps, up to six HD streams of XAVC HD Intra Class100 or up to 10 HD streams of XAVC HD Long422 50Mbps in real time.  M264 offers the pristine quality needed for broadcast ingest, production and playout applications. Developers of PC-based video servers can achieve high-density XAVC encoding and decoding very cost-effectively with Matrox M.264 — they can offload CPU resources for other tasks, minimize power consumption and conserve rack space.

OEMs are invited to book a meeting with the Matrox OEM team at the 2016 NAB Show (Las Vegas, April 18-21, booth SL6317) to see a demonstration and discuss the complete Matrox developer products roadmap.

“XAVC is quickly becoming the production codec of choice for broadcasters,” Ryosuke Hayashi, Deputy Senior General Manager of Sony. “With the new Matrox M264 card, the computationally expensive operating points like 4K Intra Class 480 or QFHD Long 4:2:2 10-bit in PC platforms can happen without compromising PC performance used in current HD workflows.”

”Our OEM customers build many of the industry’s leading PC-based video server solutions,” said Alberto Cieri, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing, Matrox Video. “With our M264 card, they will now be able augment their products with full XAVC workflows to satisfy their users who expect the multi-channel capability they have today with XDCAM HD with the same workflows in XAVC.”

Matrox M264 is a half-length PCIe card featuring an onboard codec for unprecedented multi-channel H.264 encoding/decoding quality and performance from Baseline Profile to High 10 Intra Profile up to Level 5.2. It’s the hardware encoding engine for OEMs who need to add advanced IP streaming capabilities to channel-in-a-box systems, video servers, broadcast graphics systems, multiviewers and switchers or create high-density encoders, transcoders and other broadcast media equipment. Comprehensive development tools in the Matrox DSX SDKs for Windows® or Linux® include versatile file reading/writing, memory management, IP streaming, synchronization mechanisms and a large selection of software codecs and effects. A prototyping tool provides a graphical representation of all hardware components so developers can simulate and test their use cases within minutes, before writing a single line of code. From a single development effort, broadcast equipment manufacturers can create a variety of products at a full range of price/performance levels.
