Mobike’s Promo If Mobike Came to My City Shot with URSA Mini 4.6K and Micro Cinema Camera
Fremont, CA - July 28, 2017 - Blackmagic Design today announced that Shanghai based Luminary Visuals Studio shot the “If Mobike Came to My City” promo with their Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K and Micro Cinema Camera. The promo is being used for Mobike’s marketing efforts for its launch in England at the end of this June.
Mobike is one of China’s largest dock-less bike share companies. In this new promo, international Mobikers in Shanghai talk about why they choose to ‘Mobike' and what impact they think it would make on their hometowns.
“Mobike approached us because the project was so urgent that there would be only twelve days totally for this project, from conception to completion, and they knew we had the ability to perform a fast turnaround without losing quality,” said Alessio Avezzano, Creative Director of Luminary Visuals.
He continued: “They wanted it to be filmed in some nice spots around Shanghai, which sometimes isn't easy because you will get shut down if your crew appears too big.”
To make the crew as small as possible, Avezzano’s team decided to use their own Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K and Micro Cinema Camera to do the job. “If we had rented bigger cameras, we would have had to hire two more assistants, which makes the shoot bigger and slower, and this shoot involved covering multiple locations across Shanghai within a short amount of time,” he explained. “The two Blackmagic cameras we have both feature smaller bodies, which ensures a small crew consisting of only three members, i.e. me as director/DP/cinematographer, my brother as assistant director/camera and a sound recordist, but we are still able to capture cinematic imagery with the help of the cameras.”
Most of the promo was shot with the URSA Mini 4.6K. To add more fun, Avezzano wanted to shoot the interviewees riding on a Mobike from a moving ebike. “Thats where the Micro Cinema Camera came in handy. It is so compact that it allows me to use smaller rigs for things such as gimbals and sliders, so we were able to film from another bike on a gimbal without drawing too much attention, allowing us to capture a lot of natural moments.”
The Micro Cinema Camera was also used to shoot the opening time lapse scene, where the Mobikes all get hired and taken away. A Blackmagic Video Assist was used along with the Micro Cinema Camera as a viewfinder and monitor.
The URSA Mini 4.6K camera captured all footage in 2K ProRes 444 while the Micro Cinema Camera captured in 1080p RAW. “The RAW on the Micro Cinema Camera is manageable in terms of size. After some adjustments in DaVinci Resolve, it matched perfectly with the footage from the URSA Mini 4.6K,” said Avezzano.
The color grading for this promo was done by Shanghai based 8G Studio in DaVinci Resolve Studio with the DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel.
